If you are looking for an edge in the job market, buy this book! June 18, 2010 Stephen Britton (A quiet suburb outside NYC, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For several months, I sent my resume out to numerous companies and received few responses. I was ready to blame the problem on the economy until I started hearing news that economy is picking up. Companies are hiring again.
It was then that I looked over my resume. It was so "old school." I started to think that I need a different approach. I looked over several books on Amazon and I have admit that this one first caught my attention because the author's maiden name is the same as my last name - Britton.
I wound up ordering the book and it is does a fantastic job explaining how to craft a great resume. There are so many people looking for jobs today that your resume has to show what you can do for an employer rather than a list of job accomplishments.
I spent an evening reading this book and wrote a new resume from scratch. I called up several former bosses and co-workers and got quotes and permission to print their recommendations. My new resume is completely different. It describes how I can increase business for a new employer, and then backs it up with my experience and then validates it with recommendations from previous employers and co-workers.
My new resume has been better received than my old one. Although the economy is better than it was six months ago, I think the reason why I am getting interviews is the help that I received from this book.
Absolutely The Best June 18, 2010 QueenBean84 (LaFayette, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the best resume writing book I have come across in a long time. In the past few years, I have lost one job due to the company going out of business and another because I had to relocate. It was so difficult for me to write a resume that showed that I actually had accomplished things at my previous positions! This book allowed me to make a complete, and much needed, overhaul of my existing resume. The advice and information was extensive. One of the best chapters in the book was about Accomplishments. The author provided at least 100 Impact-Mining questions that helped me to really find out what I have achieved throughout my career and how to best show that on my resume. My resume was complete crap until this book. Below I have copied an excerpt from my old resume and my new one after following the guidance in this book. You can really see the difference!

The only thing I didn't like about the book was that the author assumes that you are hand-picking the best company you want to work for. In this day and age, I'd be happy to work for ANY company.
An Invaluable Career Resource May 23, 2010 Norman B. Tucker (Washington, DC) Resume Magic 4th Edition by Susan Britton Whitcomb is an invaluable resource for job seekers, resume writers, career coach. The book is brimming with insight, techniques, and examples that give you a competitive advantage in the job market. Those without the kind of resume writing training that this book provides can't begin to compete with those who do. They definitely better know someone who can hire them. A better alternative is to make Resume Magic 4th Edition part of your career coaching team so you can become a top contender or the standard by which others are measured...whether or not you know the hiring manager.
Best book on the subject May 17, 2010 eargasm (Chicago) I really liked this book and the examples. There were real life scenarios and very well written examples of how to adress them in your resume.
Great -- If you want In-depth Information February 11, 2010 Moi (Massachusetts) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading a lot of 5-star reviews, I ordered this book. However, I was completely overwhelmed by the volume of information contained in the book. This book has it all, but may not be the book you want if you're looking for an EASY guide to re-vamping an existing resume.
