Product Description Do you want the key to the best jobs with the best employers? It's time to play offense instead of defense. Competency-Based Resumes shows today's job candidates a new, more targeted way to write resumes to get them back on the same playing field with the best employers and improve their odds of winning the job they want. The system an employer uses when filling jobs has changed significantly in the past few years, and it is still evolving. Rather than simply looking at an applicant's past jobs, companies are instead looking at candidate's experiences in certain key areas-including measurable work habits and the personal skills, known as competencies, used to achieve objectives at work. Competency-Based Resumes offers you a new and effective way to create resumes that emphasizes the knowledge, skills, and abilities that you have and employers need. Many sophisticated U.S. and international organizations are using competency-based systems to recruit, interview, select, and promote. Corporations such as American Express, Coca-Cola, Sears, and MetLife are all looking for specific competencies.

Superior Resource for Job Seekers June 12, 2009 Joseph A. Babaian (Houston, TX USA) Robin Kessler's work with Linda Strasburg has produced an extremely concise, well researched and *VERY* useful guide for any job seeker. This book is suitable for the new college graduate or the seasoned executive and all in between.
I was impressed by how quickly I was able to understand and implement the techniques and suggestions for taking my average resume and transforming it into a superior showcase of my competencies. I feel confident that my new resume best reflects the total picture of what I offer to potential employers and other contacts.
I highly recommend this book and suggest you do not delay in using the methods and suggestions contained within to make an improvement in how you show yourself to the world.
Great resource for Job Seekers April 28, 2009 Jackie Verity (Houston,TX) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I regularly use this book in my career coaching and recommend it without hesitation to my clients - invaluable guide for job seekers and well worth the investment! If you follow the guidelines in this and 'Competency Based Interviews' you will get results!
Mediocre book spreading one good idea too thinly February 10, 2009 Sophie Lagace (Eureka, CA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Although the concept of competence-based resumes is very useful in the current job search environment, this book is infuriatingly written. It is reminescent of those "how to draw a face" tutorials of my childhood: Step 1 - a circle; Step 2 - add two lines for the nose and mouth; Step 3 - Mona Lisa. The example resumes provided were useful, but the text descriptions of how to get there were inane. Moreover, this is useful but not at all the revolutionary concept the authors describe. Recommended only if you pick it up at a used book store.
I still haven't received this book after one month! April 28, 2008 Yanrong Hu (USA) 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
I contacted with the seller, reminding him/her to send the book, after 2-3 weeks, a few days later, I was told I would recerve it. But, until now, I am still kept waiting.
Results! February 26, 2007 Denver3344 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Since I have applied Ms. Kessler's innovative approach to my own resume, I have been selected to interview for each senior level position I have submitted for. Now the rest is up to me. I highly recommend both her books, they provide the most current techniques in competency-based and behavioral approaches to resume writing and the interview process. The format is clear and concise with excellent real-life examples across a variety of industries. A must resource!
