It Worked for Me! November 27, 2009 Patrick (Atlanta, GA) With no military or inside government connection, I landed the ultimate government job after reading through this entire book. I took all the advice and suggestions very seriously by tailoring my resume with key words, responding to KSA's thoroughly, and follow-up emails and phone calls. It has done wonders for me! Please don't waste your time applying for federal government jobs with the typical private sector job search process. Read through this these books, and you will see.
Excellent Book October 30, 2009 S. Davis The book "How to Land a Top-Paying Federal Job" is right on point. I followed the step-by-step instructions and I have recently been hired by the GSA. I am very happy and excited to have the great job that I wanted. In addition, the book is easy to read and logically written. I highly recommend this book if you want a great government job!
A Must-Have! October 3, 2009 MEDI (VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although there is no bona fide guarantee that you will get a government job, I can say with absolute certainty that you will be placed in the top tier group as being the Best Qualified and possibly be called for an interview (PROVIDING YOU FOLLOW what the author recommends)! What happens at that point is on you, and there is even a section on how to prepare for interviews.
For those who are so serious and cannot appreciate a little humor, then simply disregard it and hone in on the salient points. So far, I have been placed in the top group as best qualified, receiving scores of 100% in two agencies. Granted, it was my experience and background that helped but making the transition from private sector to government (which was completely foreign to me) well, Lily deserves the accolades for that!
It is by far, one of the best investments you could make! Trust me on this - you'll be glad you did.
If I wanted a Folksy Book on humor... I don't September 29, 2009 Gracie Roberts (Richmond, VA) 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
If I wanted a folksy book on humor, I'd buy one. I don't. 'Oodles of internships..."
I take the business of getting a job in government seriously. I looked at this book
and decided not to recommend it. It is not worth the money. Unless you want a folksy book on humor, and to not get a job or go through the serious and sometimes painful work of getting a federal career.
Great for federal contractors too! August 9, 2009 Melissa T (Alexandria, VA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Lily Whiteman's book was invaluable. Not only for federal jobs, but as a contractor, I found the book to be of incredible help. I was going in circles, writing and re-writing my resume, always ending up with the same product. With the guidance in this book, I was able to ask the right questions of myself, to finally write a resume that is more focused and definitely less typical of the resumes that, as a manager, I have received from potential employees. I now feel that I have less of a chance of ending up in the "circular file." Tips such as quoting other peoples' opinions of me, as you would find in a movie review, were particulary clever.
